Rescaling

Hey guys,

After reading Derek Yu's post about finishing projects one more time, I decided to rescale and organize the project a little bit. I figured out that it would be better to start actually making the game instead being stuck in the planning phase for an unspecified amount of time. Let's start really basic (and I mean really basic), go up from there and see what the game will become.

Scheduled for the pre-alpha 0 (to be finished this week) is basic keyboard input, fixed top-down camera, 32x32 tiles for graphics, 640x480 screen resolution and 24-bit (true color) color depth. I'm happy to announce that I'm already done with 3/5 of those items and am only left with keyboard input and camera to finish. Here is the result so far:

The guy seen on the screenshot is actually Namlos Nemo, the game's male protagonist. In his world, science advanced to the point that is indistinguishable from magic. Although a nanotech expert, his talent is wasted in a cubicle in a nameless company under oppressive government ruling over a gray-brown wasteland and he misses the tales of monsters, knights and dragons. But all of this changes when he discovers a hidden world underground and meets its inhabitants, particularly the dragon queen Shadowwing Metalia (the game's female protagonist). A special thanks to Aniusia483 for drawing her picture:

Feel free to contribute to the project as well. I will keep you up to date on the version updates and a bits of lore here and there. Whether you can draw, write, program or design, your help will be appreciated. Can't do either of these? Don't worry! Even a spare cent might help. The point is, if you believe in indie development, love old games and wish to see variety and color in gaming (currently dominated by the gritty gray-brown shooters) once more, then stand up for what you believe and make it happen!

Till next time, ;)

-Michael
